CBSE – Central Board of Secondary Education

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is one of India’s premier national education boards, overseeing both public and private schools under the governance of the Union Government of India.

Currently, there are over 21,000 CBSE-affiliated schools in India and more than 220 schools across 28 countries globally. Since its inception with 309 schools in 1962, CBSE has witnessed significant expansion. All affiliated schools adhere to the standardized NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) curriculum.

CBSE conducts the final board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 annually in March, with results typically announced by the end of May.

Promotion Criteria for Classes 9th & 10th:

• Students must secure a minimum of 33% overall in all subjects (or best five out of six).
• No minimum theory mark requirement is enforced at this level.
• Failing in up to two subjects allows the student to appear for a compartment exam in July.
• Failing the compartment or failing in three or more subjects requires the student to repeat all subjects the next academic year.

Promotion Criteria for Class 11th & 12th:

• Students must achieve 33% overall marks, including both theory and practical exams (if applicable).
• If a student fails in one subject, they are eligible for a compartment exam in July.
• Failing the compartment or failing in two or more subjects means the student must repeat all subjects the next year.

CBSE conducts final board examinations for Classes 9 to 12 annually in March. To aid in preparation, mock exams are available for various subjects across these classes.
